Rising seniors (>= 87 hours) must complete the Senior Year Petition

A degree candidate at the College of Charleston who wishes to receive College of Charleston credit for courses at another institution must submit the Coursework Elsewhere form. If you are required to submit proof of permission (transient permission) in order to register at another institution as a transient student, submit the Transient Permission letter and attach a printed copy of your approved transfer credit from DegreeWorks. For more information on transferring courses, including of list of transferable courses from two year SC schools, please see the Transfer Credit page.

  • Coursework Elsewhere During Senior Year Petition

Hours Earned + Currently Enrolled Hours + Requested Hours >= 87 Hours

This form is used by seniors who want to take a course or courses during their senior year away from the College of Charleston. A printed copy of the student’s Degree Works Class History Degree Audit from My Charleston must be attached to the form and the form must be signed by the department chair or program director of the student’s major before it is submitted to the Transfer Resource Center.  Up to seven (7) of the last thirty-seven (37) credit hours may be approved; eight (8) hours if two laboratory courses are involved. If additional hours are requested, the student must attach justification in a separate letter and a copy of their Unofficial Transcript from MyCharleston, all of which will be forwarded to the Faculty Committee on Academic Standards (FCAS) for a final decision.

  • Transient Permission Form
This form should be sent to any institution that requires College of Charleston approval before the student can take a course as a visiting student.  The College of Charleston does not sign other institution’s transient permission forms. In lieu of a signature on another institution’s form, the Transfer Resource Center provides students with a signed CofC Transient Permission Form and a “PT” (pending transcript) indicator on a student’s DegreeWorks degree audit as permission to take a course at another institution.
