Credit by Exam

Recently the College Board and International Baccalaureate announced modifications to the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exam processes in response to COVID-19. Based on recommendations by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE), the College of Charleston recognizes the efforts that students have already applied in these challenging courses and will award transfer credit by exam for 2020 AP and IB exams consistent with the previously published exam score equivalency charts on the Transfer Resource Center’s Credit by Exam webpage.

The College awards credit for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), selected Cambridge International Exams (A Level and AS Level) and many College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) exams, based on the student’s scores. Click the links below to view the credit awarded.

When credit is given, your College of Charleston transcript will show that the credit comes from an exam. If you enroll in a class at the College for which you have already received credit based on your exam scores, you will not receive credit again for taking the class, although the grade may be included in your GPA.
